Apprentice Joiner – A day in the life of Natasha Bluck
My day starts around 8am when I’m picked up from my house. We then visit our local UPVC retailer, from whom we order our doors and windows, which they also store. Upon reviewing the calendar for the jobs booked in, we load the van with the corresponding items required for that day. Occasionally we load the van the night before, if we have enough time.
On arrival at the address, we would unload everything we needed to complete the job from the van. Dust sheets are laid down to protect the surrounding areas. Before we begin disassembling the old items, I would confirm that the new replacement items are correct and then in conjunction with my colleague, we begin the work.
Depending on the amount of work to be done, this can take between four and seven hours and at about 4.30pm I’m dropped off back at home.
Regardless of your educational background, I recommend doing an apprenticeship as it allows you to earn while learning and developing your skills while gaining real world work experience. Growing within a company like Beyond Housing allows you to become a valuable member of the team.
