Hints and tips for applying
- Top tips for a successful application form
-
These apprenticeships are always really popular, so you’ll want to make sure you stand out from the crowd.
Include examples of how you meet all the skills and criteria – the more you tell us, the better!
We use this information to shortlist to the next stage of recruitment, so now is the time to show us how amazing you really are. This is the most important part of the application process.
- Through to the next round? Do your research
-
Be as prepared as you can be and do your research before your interview. We’re always impressed when you’ve taken the time to understand our company and we’ll know from your knowledge that you’re very interested in the position and a strong candidate for the job.
Researching can also help you decide if you really want to work for us, as you will get a strong feel for our overall mission, values and culture.
- Be prepared
-
Before your interview think about your selling points and how to get them across. It’s always good to think about some potential questions, but remember:
- Practice good nonverbal communication too and be aware of your body language
- Listen
- Make eye contact
- Take care to answer the questions and don’t be afraid to pause for a moment, or ask us to repeat the question
- Prepare some questions for us. It’s as much about us getting to know you, as it is you getting to know us, so ask away at the end of your interview.
- Dress to impress
-
There’s no harm in asking a company if they have a formal dress code for interviews, but remember first impressions count – even on Zoom! Regardless of the job you are applying for, always make the effort to dress to impress. We’re not expecting you to be suited and booted if it makes you uncomfortable but always dress smartly.
Also, remember the little things – make sure your nails are clean and tidy and check your clothes for holes, stains, pet hair and loose threads.
- Arrive early
-
Always aim to arrive 10–15 minutes early. Map out your route to your interview location so you can be sure to arrive on time. Consider doing a trial run. If you’re taking public transportation, have you got a backup plan if there are delays or closures?
And if you arrive early, use the extra minutes to observe our workplace dynamics – get a real feel for the place.
