Emma’s story – Work & Training

Emma first signed up to New Directions in January 2020. Being a single mum with very little support, she was at a loss where to turn or what direction to take.

Emma engaged with our team on a weekly basis over the telephone due to the pandemic and never missed an appointment with us. Although there were a number of barriers preventing Emma from being able to apply for work, she was still very keen to develop her skills and abilities. She had previously obtained a Level 2 qualification in Hair & Beauty and still had an interest in this sector of the industry. We discussed options of her looking to become self-employed in the future to enable her to work around her children. In March 2021, Emma signed up for an online Customer Care course which we provided funding for to help support her due to her financial difficulties.

In November 2021, Emma left our programme in order to start an acrylic nail training course to add another string to her bow. Again we provided the funding to enable her to complete this course and would like to wish Emma the best of luck for the future.
