Significant ESG progress in key areas
Thursday 13 February 2025
We have published our 2023/24 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, detailing significant progress in key areas, including home energy efficiency, community investment, and governance.
In the financial year 2023/24, we reported a turnover of £93.6 million, managing more than 15,000 homes across North Yorkshire and the North East and serving more than 30,000 customers. We invested £40.7 million in building new homes and £40.2 million in maintaining and improving existing properties, including routine and planned maintenance as well as major repairs.
The ESG report shows that 86% of our homes now have an energy efficiency rating of EPC C or above, with plans to reach 100% by 2030. In the last financial year, we implemented energy-saving upgrades in 245 homes and committed to ensuring all new developments are off-gas by 2025.
The report also highlights our community initiatives, such as the Reach & Respond service, which offers 24/7 emergency response and welfare visits to help customers live independently for longer. Our employment support services helped 281 people become work-ready, supported 112 into employment, and recruited 30 apprentices, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to improving local outcomes.
Governance remains strong, with Beyond Housing retaining its G1/V1 regulatory rating and being recognised as one of the UK’s most inclusive employers, ranked in the top 100 by the National Centre for Diversity.
The report outlines plans to enhance climate risk management, including flood risk mitigation strategies and the phased rollout of low-carbon heating systems to meet its net-zero target.
Rosemary Du Rose, Chief Executive of Beyond Housing, said: “We are proud of the progress we are making towards our ESG commitments, ensuring positive impacts for our communities, customers, and the environment. This year, we invested over £40 million in maintaining and improving existing homes, alongside a further £40 million in building new ones. We are on track to ensure all our homes reach an EPC C rating by 2030, and we have begun rolling out lower-emission vehicles as part of our carbon reduction efforts.
“We are also working to upskill our in-house teams to deliver sustainable home improvements, such as fitting air source heat pumps. We remain committed to tackling issues such as damp and mould, supporting vulnerable residents through services like Reach & Respond, and fostering an inclusive workplace, as reflected by our place among the most inclusive employers in the UK. However, we know there is more to do, and our focus is to continuously improve.”
The 2023/24 ESG report underscores our focus on sustainable homes, thriving communities, and robust governance practices, reinforcing its commitment to making a positive impact across the region.
