Ethnicity
We ask all our new starters to declare their ethnicity when they apply for a role with us. Completion of the monitoring form is voluntary, and we offer the option of ‘prefer not to say’ for those who do complete the form. The number of colleagues who have not declared their ethnicity or who prefer not to say has reduced following a campaign to encourage colleagues to provide the data.

Mean and median ethnicity pay gap
Calculating the pay gap between those who declare themselves to be an ethnic minority vs those who declare themselves to be white or choose not to declare:
- Our mean ethnicity pay gap was 9.9
This means that on average, colleagues in Beyond Housing who declare they are an ethnic minority are paid 9.9% less than other colleagues. This has increased from the previous year rate of 5.5%.
- Our median ethnicity pay gap was 12.5
This means the average colleague who declares they are an ethnic minority are paid 12.5% less than other colleagues. This has increased from the previous year rate of -0.6.

Commentary on ethnicity pay gap
The movement in our ethnicity pay gap is a result of an increase in the number of colleagues employed who have declared their ethnicity as a minority group from seven to 11 colleagues. During 2023 we encouraged colleagues to declare their protected characteristics to improve our monitoring and we also recruited two additional colleagues from minority groups. While there has been minor movement in the quartiles (from 1 to 2% in all but the top quartile), our ethnicity pay gap data indicates that our colleagues from ethnic minorities are still evenly distributed amongst pay quartiles.
