Friends Reunited at The Cliffs in Brotton

Tuesday 4 February 2019

Two school friends have been reunited, decades after losing touch, when they moved into The Cliffs in Brotton.

Maureen Thomas (71) and Sue Blenkinsop (70) met at school and for years they would visit the hairdressers every Friday, to catch up whilst being pampered.

After a nasty fall, which caused her to break her hip, Sue stopped going and as a result, she and Maureen lost touch.

The ladies spent more than 30 years apart, until the opening of Beyond Housing’s supported housing facility  (The Cliffs) – constructed by Galliford Try Partnerships North – where Maureen noticed Sue sitting across the room from her.

Maureen said: “I couldn’t believe it was Sue! After many years of not seeing each other I was so overjoyed to meet her again and I couldn’t help but go over and give her a cuddle.

“We spent many years laughing and enjoying each other’s company at the hairdressers and I’ve been hoping that one day we would be reunited. I couldn’t have asked for anyone better to have moved in so close to me and I hope we’re able to make the most of our time together at The Cliffs.”

Sue said: “It was so wonderful to see Maureen after so many years. I’d heard she was living close by, but I had no idea she would be living at The Cliffs, so it was such a surprise to see her.

“Though I’m not very mobile at the minute, I’m looking forward to eventually being able to get out and about and spend some more time with Maureen. We spent a long time reminiscing and remembering when we were quite a few years younger at The Cliffs opening and it’s a lovely coincidence that we now only live a few doors apart.”
