Funding boost for community stepping stones cafe

Carity Cheques Community Stepping Stones A ka

Beyond Housing has donated £500 to Community Stepping Stones CIC in Dormanstown.

Formed on 1 October 2018, Beyond Housing is marking its first birthday by donating £500 to ten charities and community groups across the footprint it operates in, spanning from Redcar and Cleveland to Scarborough.

The Community Stepping Stones CIC Café gives people with learning disabilities the opportunity to gain experience and qualifications in hospitality, empowering them to find employment. It also hosts activities including craft groups, games afternoons and ‘Friendship Fridays’ to help address social isolation.

The donation will support two new projects; a men’s group to combat loneliness and a photography project.

Community Stepping Stones CIC Director Di Pearson said: “We are overwhelmed to have been chosen to receive this donation.

“The money will enable us to continue working with the community to deliver activities such as friendship and games sessions and knitting groups while also linking with services including Age UK, Kinship Carers and Redcar Versus Arthritis.”

Tracy O’Neill, Executive Director of Customers and Communities at Beyond Housing, said: “At Beyond Housing, we’re committed to going beyond the bricks and mortar to provide life-enhancing opportunities and choices to the people within our communities.

“Community Stepping Stones makes a huge contribution in and around Dormanstown and I’m delighted that our first birthday donation will help to widen its scope even more.”
