Housing disrepair claims – what you need to know
At Beyond Housing we care about you and your home, and are fully committed to keeping your home in top condition whilst working hard to rectify any repairs in a timely manner.
This is our commitment to you, and as a renter you have the power to ask your landlord for compensation if they fail to carry out repairs within a reasonable time once you have reported them.
There are solicitors out there specialising in this type of claim, who may contact you and encourage you to put a housing disrepair claim in when it’s not always necessary or for legitimate reasons, and quite often they will take the majority of any compensation won.
Housing disrepair solicitors may tell you not to allow Beyond Housing access to carry out repairs as it will affect a claim, or in order to exaggerate your claim. This could be very dangerous and result in damage to your possessions that you would need to replace yourself as the solicitor will not take liability for this.
If you are at all concerned about disrepair issues in your home or about solicitors contacting you, we would encourage you to contact us in the first instance. If you’re dissatisfied with the results of any repairs, you can take your complaint to the Housing Ombudsman to ensure your claim is settled in a fair way that doesn’t see you lose out.
