Jake’s success – Volunteering

Jake began volunteering with us in June 2021, Jake showed real initiative to gain employment by shadowing with our Surveying team as a volunteer. This provided Jake with a wealth of knowledge and experience that helped him secure a full time and permanent role as an Assistant Building Surveyor with the prestigious company Faithful & Gould in Newcastle. 

Jake initially applied for a job as a surveyor at Beyond Housing, however he was unsuccessful due to his lack of experience. Jake received a feedback call which included a lengthy description of positive comments and advice for the future. He was thankful for the opportunity to get such positive and vital feedback for future endeavours. During the interview he was pleased to hear the initiatives that Beyond Housing had in place and was interested to learn more. A couple of days later Jake contacted us about joining on a voluntary basis for experience which we were more than happy to help.  

Here’s what Jake had to say: “The most enjoyable part of the role has been the individuals that I have worked with in order to gain experience. The knowledge and advice I have received working with experienced professionals in the industry is priceless. I have enjoyed shadowing surveyors, visiting different property types in all weathers and learning about the role with hands on experience.”. 

Volunteering with us has given Jake options of work that previously would not have been possible without gaining valuable experience. He has gained confidence and skills that have now created opportunities for him to use in the industry. Jake has now accepted a role as a surveyor and cannot thank us enough for allowing him to join and feel like a vital member of the team.
