Kerry’s Success Story!
Kerry was initially referred to us by her income advisor in October 2022 after falling into arrears with her rent. The effects of the pandemic and continued lockdowns had caused a range of problems for Kerry and her daughter, which had slowly eased over time, meaning a potential return to employment was a realistic consideration for Kerry.
Starting with the basics and helping to create a CV and covering letter, we also spent time helping Kerry to improve her confidence and self-belief, as well as addressing other complex barriers which were hindering progress. Working with other internal teams here at Beyond Housing, we helped Kerry to dispose of her surplus furniture and arranged funding for a new cooker, as well as addressing other issues with her property.
In a comparatively short space of time, Kerry began to feel more capable of applying for work and was able to identify transferable skills and effectively sell herself to potential employers. Kerry was invited to a trial shift at a local business and offered a paid position shortly afterwards. We were able to help with funds for work clothing so Kerry’s new job could get off to a flying start.
Kerry has made great progress. She is more positive about herself and her living situation and more hopeful for the future. Kerry is still in touch with the Employment Support and Training team on a regular basis, and has firm plans for the year ahead.
