What you can expect

We know living in a well looked after community is an important part of living in one of our homes for customers. We think the same and would like to share with you what you can expect from the service you’ll receive.

Expected quality standards (all work types)
  • Before each visit, we do our best to pick up the litter from the area to maintain cleanliness
  • We safely move any items related to fly tipping to ensure a tidy environment and report it back to base
  • Debris resulting from maintenance is promptly removed from the site, except in areas where a cut and drop service is provided
  • To prevent trip hazards, all paths, hardstanding areas, and walkways are thoroughly cleared after maintenance.
Grass management (open space, communal gardens, and formal areas)

At Beyond Housing, we take pride in maintaining lush green spaces. Here’s what we do:

  • Throughout the growing season, we ensure that grass is cut at least nine times, aiming for sixteen cuts between March and October
  • All grassed areas marked on our maps are meticulously maintained to keep them short and well-kept year-round
  • We take utmost care to avoid any damage to the ground, grass, trees, or infrastructure during our maintenance activities.
Hedge and shrub management (all areas)

Our commitment extends to maintaining beautiful shrubs and hedges. Here’s what we do:

  • All shrubs and hedges are pruned and maintained according to species requirements and industry standards
  • Hedges are evenly cut, level, and close-clipped to maintain a neat appearance
  • We ensure that hedges and shrubs are maintained to an appropriate height and width, with additional reductions if required.
Formal areas

We understand the importance of maintaining formal areas to the highest standards. Here’s what we do:

  • Grass within formal areas is cut to precise standards, and all cuttings are removed to maintain pristine surroundings
  • Shrubs, hedges, and beds in formal areas are meticulously maintained in accordance with specifications
  • Where necessary, shrubs are pruned to promote healthy growth and development.
Naturalised areas

We’re committed to managing naturalised areas for conservation and biodiversity. Here’s what we do:

  • Naturalised grass areas are maintained as meadow grassland, with defined mowing schedules
  • We ensure the removal and eradication of noxious or invasive weeds to preserve the natural habitat
  • Where possible, we manage these areas to facilitate public access and educational purposes.
Seasonal bedding

We embrace low-maintenance horticultural features to enhance aesthetics and support wildlife. Here’s how we approach seasonal bedding:

  • We encourage the conversion of seasonal flowerbeds to low-maintenance features and prioritise native plant species
  • Our planting designs aim to maximize the provision of native and nectar-rich plants, benefiting pollinators and butterflies
  • Changes are made to reduce environmental and financial costs associated with seasonal annuals where feasible.
Herbaceous perennials

We prioritise vibrant horticultural features while supporting wildlife. Here’s how we maintain herbaceous perennials:

  • We attend to herbaceous and mixed beds monthly, ensuring weed control and maintaining plant health
  • Soil improvement measures are undertaken as needed to sustain plant vigor
  • Annual mulching during winter helps preserve soil moisture and suppress weeds.
Chemical application (Hard standing and garage sites)

Safety and efficacy are paramount in chemical applications. Here’s how we ensure responsible usage:

  • We employ competent personnel with proper certifications for herbicide application
  • Chemical applications are conducted in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions and relevant regulations
  • Comprehensive records of chemical applications are maintained, including details of areas treated and weather conditions.
Graffiti management (reporting)

Although not part of the grounds maintenance offer, we take graffiti management seriously. Here’s how we handle it:

  • Our team promptly reports any graffiti identified during our estate servicing within 24 hours
  • By reporting graffiti swiftly, we help maintain the overall appearance and ambiance of our estates and neighbourhoods.
Health and safety

Safety is our top priority in all operations. Here’s how we prioritise health and safety:

  • All our operatives are fully trained in the safe use of tools and equipment, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation
  • We comply with all relevant health and safety regulations, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations
  • Our comprehensive health and safety policies cover all legal requirements and are regularly reviewed and updated to ensure ongoing compliance.
