Our Westfield Farm volunteers

Zoe Ablett, Garden and Events Assistant Volunteer

Why did you choose to volunteer?

I volunteer because I love gardening and wanted to work on a garden other than my own.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

It’s a friendly place to be and I also enjoy learning new and traditional skills.

How has volunteering helped you?

It’s helped me to work really well as part of a team. I’ve gained more confidence in myself and my work.

Ste Donoghue, Garden Volunteer

Why did you choose to volunteer?

I was doing some training in Eston and I met an employer engagement officer from Beyond Housing’s Employability team, who directed me to Westfield Farm to volunteer.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

I mostly enjoy getting out of the house and meeting new people, making new friends and learning new skills. This helps with my health and wellbeing.

How has volunteering helped you?

It’s given me more confidence and my dignity back. I am able to say to people that although I might be out of work, I am volunteering and giving something back to the community.

Ste Wright, Reception Volunteer and Digital Champion

Why did you choose to volunteer?

I was unemployed and really wanted to include office experience to my CV. I was already aware of Westfield Farm and it was convenient to travel to as it was only around the corner.

What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

I really enjoy helping people and showing them around a computer. It’s a friendly, welcoming place and we are always having a laugh. I also enjoy keeping things organised.

How has volunteering helped you?

It’s helped me gain experience in an office and also in training others. I’ve had the opportunity to learn new things and it has challenged me to work with lots of new people and learn new skills.
