Employment Support and Training

Case Study: Liam

Background

In January, Liam was referred to the Employment Support and Training (EST) team by his Beyond Housing Benefit Caseworker, to help him gain employment. Up until November 2023, he’d worked in a variety of construction-based roles and was eager to get back into work as quickly as possible. Liam needed support with updating his CV so it included his most recent employment history, qualifications and skills, which the EST team assisted him with throughout his 1-2-1 appointments.

Story

Liam had a good network of contacts and he was willing to utilise these when job hunting, in addition to applying for jobs online. He was also concerned about transport, as his last job had been on his doorstep and he knew this might not be the case with his next job. Liam contacted people he knew from previous employment and sent his new CV to agencies and businesses. He was lucky to secure employment in Redcar fairly quickly but needed help with transport and PPE before he could accept the job offer.

Outcomes

Liam’s ESAT advisor worked in partnership with ‘Routes to Employment’ at Redcar & Cleveland Council and together they sourced him a bicycle and the PPE he needed to start his new job the following week.

Liam was so appreciative of the help and support he received and he was really looking forward to being back at work his brief time of being supported by ESAT.

Congratulations Liam, we all wish you well in your new job!
