Redevelopment commences of £3.7 million former primary school site at Ingleby Arncliffe

We’re delighted to be bringing much-needed affordable homes to a rural North Yorkshire village. Marking the start of Rural Housing Week we’ve commenced work on a £3.7 million redevelopment of a former primary school site in Ingleby Arncliffe, which has been unused for a number of years.
Plans for the investment, comprising 18 homes have been worked up closely with the parish council and Hambleton’s Rural Housing Enabler and seek to contribute towards the newly approved neighbourhood plan for the area.
The scheme will include a range of one, two and three-bedroom homes and two-bed-room bungalows. Eight homes are to be made available for affordable rent, four to be marketed through a shared ownership arrangement, four offered on a rent-to-buy basis and two for discounted market sale.
Homes England has approved a grant of £1.1 million, with Hambleton District Council also contributing £340,000 to the scheme.
Work has recently started on site, with EQUANS – the new name for ENGIE’s services and regeneration business – leading on construction.
Ben Briggs, Project Manager at Beyond Housing, said: “This is a significant development for a rural location where affordable housing is in short supply.
“These homes will meet an acute housing need as well as vastly improving a long-abandoned site in the heart of the village.”
David Cook, Chairman of Ingleby Arncliffe Parish Council, said: “We have worked as parish for several years to produce a neighbourhood plan which addresses the housing needs of parish residents both now and in years to come. We are pleased to see that the provision of much needed affordable housing in the village will soon be a reality, and we are committed to working in partnership with Beyond Housing and Hambleton District Council to ensure that the housing needs of parish residents are met.”
Paul Hankin, Operations Manager at building contractor EQUANS, said: “We are pleased to be working with Beyond Housing on this scheme and we are committed to providing a high-quality development which will complement the village surroundings, and redevelop what has been a neglected site over the last couple of years.”
Angela Walmsley, Rural Housing Enabler for Hambleton District Council commented: “It is great that we can celebrate Rural Housing Week with the launch of this scheme. This development will provide much-needed affordable housing for Ingleby Arncliffe, giving village residents the opportunity to make steps on the property ladder.”
