Our Markse Square revamp project is underway!

Friday 11 April 2025

Our planning application to make a range of improvements to Marske Square was recently unanimously approved by Redcar & Cleveland Council’s regulatory committee, with councillors describing the decision as a “win win” and a “no brainer”.

The project, which follows a redesign by environmental charity Groundwork North East and Cumbria, will be carried out by ourselves in partnership with Tivoli Group contractors and will start with an initial site set up from Monday 14 April, with the main construction starting towards the end of the week. The project is expected to take 8-10 weeks to complete.

The central paved area will be refurbished to create a brighter looking square, with a surface more suited for hosting events. Existing kerb edging, previously considered by some to be a trip hazard, is being removed, with newly added trees and shrubs being introduced to soften the outlook while not encroaching the open space. Further improvements will include attractive new curved oak timber topped benches, while the existing seating will be refurbished and relocated to face into the square.

The improvements will ensure that the square continues to serve as a focal point for local events while also providing a more inviting space for daily use.
