Feet on the street – previous events
For every feet on the street event, you’ll find a full round-up right here for each location we’ve visited.
These events give us the chance to identify areas where we can help in the community, such as tackling fly-tipping or addressing anti-social behaviour – exploring ways we can support local improvements, we’re committed to creating safer, cleaner, and more welcoming spaces.
But it’s not just about overcoming challenges, these events are also about building relationships. We have great conversations with local customers, community groups, and partner agencies, sharing ideas and working together to make a real difference.

Key points
- Housing Officer Kelly Brown coordinated the walkabout which was supported by; Whitby team, colleagues from our employability team, and some of our apprentices
- Apologies from Ward Councillor Phil Trumper and Mayor of Whitby Councillor Sandra Turner
- The walking area included: Dundas Gdns, Auckland Way, Kirkham Cl, Fountains Cl, Rosedale Cl, Laburnum Grove, Elm Grove, Marton Ct, Auckland Ct, Runswick Ave and Runswick Ct
- Generally the areas were very clean and tidy
- One item of fly-tipping identified
- Sheds within communal spaces identified
- Overgrown grass banks due to the steep nature of the terrain and also weeds were highlighted
- Items raised from the walkabout have been collated into the tracker to be actioned.
Key points
- It was a great turnout at Salkeld Meadows as colleagues were joined by local Councillor for East Riding of Yorkshire Andy Walker, Bridlington Neighbourhood Policing Team and the local Neighbourhood Watch representative
- Local residents came out to chat with us about matters on the estate
- The neighbourhoods team were on hand to support customers with removing large, unwanted items
- Cllr Walker commended Beyond Housing for hosting the feet on the street estate walkabouts, and said he would be encouraging other housing organisations in the area to do the same.

- Housing officer Jane Walker coordinated the estate walkabout
- It was a great turnout, many colleagues from different departments supported the event, and we were also joined by Barry Whitton from Cleveland Fire Brigade
- The walk started at Fabian Ct in Eston and covered Myrddin Baker Rd, Harlech Cl, Tenby Cl/Thorndike Rd, Clynes Rd, Martindale Pl, Tennyson Ave, Attlee Rd, Griffiths Rd, St Patricks Cl, Birchington Ave
- Church Lane South looked clean and tidy after our Community Clean-Up event the day before, and Grangetown South estate looked great too
- Lots of ‘Community Star’ cards were given out, to thank customers for maintaining their gardens to an exceptional standard – colleagues were impressed at how many were given out during our walk
- We identified litter pick areas and shrub bed/grass maintenance in the Grangetown area that still need to be carried out
- A missing fencing and chicane gates have also been reported to the relevant teams to action
- We continue our strong partnership with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, Cleveland Police, Cleveland Fire Brigade and other agencies who help us to maintain our estates ensuring customers are safe and happy in their homes
- Overall, feedback from colleagues, who’ve never visited the areas before, was incredibly positive.
Key points
- The event was well supported with housing officers Clare, Danielle and Gillian, and a colleague from our assets team
- Apologies were given from Cllr Martin and several agencies who were unable to attend this time
- The meeting point was at Wentworth House and there were a few residents already waiting to speak to us which was great
- The residents commented on the grass areas around the blocks and we advised that the grass cutting programme was underway and due in this area soon
- Overall we received positive feedback – customers are happy overall with the area
- One customer commented that he found the area to be very pleasant
- A query was raised regarding the garage sites, and if they were getting knocked down
- We noted increased fly-tipping in the area behind the shops on Ayton Crescent. There are large, heavy gates at both ends which were open. A suggestion of a smaller side access with keypad entry for residents could improve this. This is being investigated for feasibility with our assets team
- We also walked around to the garage site on Ayton Crescent and it looked clean and tidy
- Overall, it was a lovely morning and everywhere looked great which was fantastic to see!
Key points
- Housing Officer Yvonne Norman, coordinated the walkabout event
- The housing team was supported by employment colleagues and also local East Cleveland Councillors, Wayne Davies and Tim Gray
- Local residents highlighted issues with anti-social behaviour during darker evenings, at a local childrens park
- The neightbourhoods team worked hard removing an extremely large plant which had sadly been removed from its pot
- Neighbourhood colleagues also came along with a van, and helped customers with large items that needed removing
- A special thank you to East Cleveland housing officers and managers for attending and joining in with the litter pick on the estate
- It was wonderful to see residents thanking Beyond Housing for being out and clearing the area of litter – well done everyone.
Key points
- Housing Officer, Victoria Playfair, led the estate walkabout around Foxrush and Oxgang close
- It was a great turnout as various internal departments and external agencies to come together and walk around the area, including: Councilor Marian Fairley (and her two lovely dogs), PCSO Matthew, PCSO Kirsten, PCSO Craig, Peter Gordon, Arson Reduction Officer, Nigel Tilley and also members of the Trading Standards team
- It was a beautiful day and great opportunity to take a look around one of our areas, and talk with colleagues and customers

- PCSO Megan from Cleveland Police also joined the walk
- It was a productive walk around the area

- Several residents came out to share what matters most to them.
Key points
- Focus area was Thrushwood Crescent/Wheatacre Close estate
- Housing Officer Andrea Portland coordinated the walkabout and colleagues from the following teams also came along; assets services, planning, scheduling, customer services, neighbourhoods and some of our apprentices
- It was an excellent turnout with an attendance of 19 people, including residents who were very passionate
- Cleveland Fire Brigade and Cllr Dr Tristan Learoyd also joined us
- Overall, the location was clean and tidy
- One area was identified for a litterpick
- Suggested estate improvements to be carried out included:
- Green areas
- Parking
- Fencing.
Key points
- Everyone met at Skinningrove Hall and first attended a local community coffee morning – it was a great opportunity for our team to connect with local residents over a cuppa
- Colleagues from our East Cleveland team attended including; management, housing officers, repairs and administration teams
- We completed a walk of the estate noting any community issues along the way
- There were no issues to report on the High Street area
- At Marine Terrace, residents stopped to tell us how happy they were in their bungalows, which was pleasing to hear
- We also gave them advice on a garden query
- Prior to the walkabout we were made aware of a communal path not being maintained.We inspected this and emailed photos to the neighbourhoods team. We also requested general tidy up and continued maintenance of the area.

- Housing Officer Beth Evans coordinated the walkabout and colleagues from housing, assets, learning and development, HR, scheduling and the neighbourhood teams attended
- Partner organisations joined the walk including Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council Community Link Officer, Cllr Stephen Martin, LIAISE Officer – Loan Sharks and the Cleveland Police Neighbourhood team
- We began the walkabout at Whale Hill Community Centre and visited; Ainthorpe Road, Birchington Avenue, Castleton Road, Ellerby Road, Fabian Road, Sandsend Road and Wilton Way
- We picked up on many areas affected by fly-tipping and raised jobs for our caretakers to remove it
- We provided reassurance on garden cases we were currently working on
- Neighbourhood improvements included sorting out a road sign for Ellerby Road. This action was picked up by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.
