Andy Roebuck

Yorkshire Regiment Infantry Soldier to Senior Health & Safety Advisor

The phrase ‘be the best’ is a slogan used by the British Army, emphasising its commitment to excellence and readiness for combat – and that’s exactly why Andy joined the Army in 2012.

Andy, 33, began his military career at 18 when he enlisted in The Yorkshire Regiment as an infantry soldier. After completing his infantry training at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire, Andy joined the 1st Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment based in Munster, Germany. During his time there, he honed his skills as an infantry soldier and developed a range of transferable skills that would later prove invaluable in his civilian career.

Next, Andy was posted to Episkopi, Cyprus, where he spent two years and had the opportunity to travel to South Africa, Kenya, Jordan and Romania, all whilst preparing for the Theatre Reserve Battalion in Afghanistan.

The Battalion later returned to the UK, where Andy was stationed once again in Catterick Garrison. It was during this posting that Andy suffered an injury on exercise, that unfortunately brought his Army career to a premature end in 2017.

Despite this setback, Andy enjoyed his time spent in the Army and would encourage others to consider joining, highlighting the wealth of transferable skills that he gained –  many of which he is still using today.

Following his departure from the army, Andy pursued health and safety qualifications to support his transition into civilian employment. After gaining valuable experience in various health and safety roles, he joined Beyond Housing in 2021.

Today, Andy applies the leadership, communication and team-building skills he developed during his military service every day at work. Over the past four years, Andy has built a successful career at Beyond Housing and now holds the position of Senior Health & Safety Advisor (Construction) within the Health & Safety team.
