Around the World in 80 Days postcard appeal

The Dunes in Redcar has launched an Around the World in 80 Days Challenge, to stimulate residents to reminisce and chat about all the places they have visited.

The aim of the Around the World in 80 Days Challenge is to collect postcards from as many places around the world and in the UK as possible, so they can be plotted on a giant map and used to initiate discussions at coffee mornings and reminiscence groups.

Charis Gracie, Schemes Coordinator at The Dunes, said: “At The Dunes, we provide a caring environment where older and more vulnerable people can live independently, but can still access support if they need it. This campaign is a demonstration of our commitment to creating a warm and positive environment for our residents. We want to encourage them to talk about some of the places they have visited over the years, look at how they have changed and discuss past experiences.”

Beyond Housing’s extra care scheme, The Dunes, provides 64 one and two bedroomed high-quality, modern apartments that offer a secure and supportive environment for people aged 55 and over.

The accommodation offers 24/7 on-site care for those who need it, including adaptable facilities for the evolving needs of the residents. The Dunes also provides communal facilities such as a bistro, hair salon and landscaped garden, helping residents to experience their own sense of community and combat social isolation.
