Fly-tipping

We take fly-tipping and the effect it has within our communities very seriously.

If we identify that a customer has fly-tipped or illegally dumped waste items on our land or within our communal areas, we will initially give reasonable notice for this to be removed. If the items are not removed, a recharge will be applied to recover the costs of removal and it will also be reported to the local authority for further action.

Fly-tipping is a serious criminal offence for which you can be prosecuted. The courts have various powers available to tackle fly-tipping, including imprisonment, unlimited fines and an order to deprive rights to a vehicle used to commit the offence.

Frequently asked questions

What is fly tipping?

Fly-tipping is dumping rubbish or waste illegally. Instead of using bins, recycling centres, or council collections, people leave their rubbish on roadsides, in fields, and even public spaces. This is bad for the environment, wildlife, and the overall look of the area. Not only is fly-tipping unsightly, it’s also illegal and can lead to fines.

What if I put a wrong item in my wheelie bin?

Putting the wrong things in your bin can lead to a missed collection. If your bin is filled with items the council can’t process (like food waste in the recycling bin), it becomes contaminated and gets left behind. Check the council’s website or call them directly to find out exactly what goes in each bin.

How can I reduce my waste?

Could your unwanted items go to a new home? Many charities take good-condition donations to reuse. Online organisations can also connect you with people who can make use of your unwanted items. By reusing or donating, you reduce waste and potentially help someone out.

Can I call you to report fly-tipping?

Yes you can call us on 0345 065 5656.
