Meet Carol Long
Carol is a qualified and registered social worker. She has had a career spanning 40 years working in local government, the private sector and latterly for a decade within national charities. She has extensive experience of working with multi-agency partnerships across social care and criminal justice and is an Honorary Fellow at the University of Durham.
Carol has been a Chief Executive Officer for two national organisations and a National Director for the NSPCC; developing skills in business planning, risk assessment, management and audit, and the safeguarding of vulnerable children and adults. She also has service development experience in providing residential services and supported housing projects.
Whilst at Durham University, Carol’s research interests have focused on supporting young adults, and families of children with disabilities. Most recently though, she has undertaken research into hate crime and anti-social behaviour. She also lectures part-time at the university.
Carol has considerable board and committee experience. This includes having previously served as non-executive director for another North East housing association; and as an audit committee member for a large YMCA federated group in the South of England.
