Meet Stuart Blackett
Stuart (or Stu as he likes to be called) recently retired from his role as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Board member at Railpen, who administer and invest c£35 billion of Railways Pension assets for over 350,000 members. He had been part of Railpen, and an instrumental part of its leadership, since 2001.
Stu has gained a wealth of Board experience over the last decade, across a number of sectors. He is a Chartered Accountant and is the Chair of Governors at the Education Training Collective (Etc.) based in the Tees Valley. He brings his own housing sector experience to Beyond Housing, having previously been Vice Chair of the Railway Housing Association, and part of their Board for 5 years. He is also on the Board of Red House School in Norton.
Born and raised in Durham, Stockton-on-Tees has been his home since 2005 and he shares that with his wife Nicky, two sons Joseph and Thomas, and their miniature schnauzer, Alfie. Stu believes in ensuring people from all backgrounds have a fair chance in life and is looking to use his retirement to give something back to the community he lives in.
In his spare time, Stu enjoys playing golf, following Sunderland AFC and holidaying with his family. He believes that organisations with a strong purpose, that is clearly articulated, succeed and was attracted to the role with Beyond Housing by the organisation’s firmly stated values.
