Installing surveillance equipment like CCTV or a smart doorbell with a camera can be a great way to improve the security of your home.

- People in your local area may have concerns about a camera or might be unhappy about being recorded. Be considerate when choosing your equipment and setting it up
- Ideally, your equipment should only capture images within the boundary of your property. If your door faces a communal area, you should only capture images of the area outside your door. If that’s not possible, the rules change. What are the rules?
- Audio recording is considered highly intrusive and is unlikely to be justifiable in most circumstances. You should consider this when choosing your equipment and choosing your default settings
- Your equipment should be correctly maintained to ensure it continues to respect the rights of people in your local area
