Staying on track with your rent
At Beyond Housing, we want to help you keep your rent account on track and avoid any unnecessary worry about your tenancy. Paying your rent on time and keeping your account slightly in credit can help if unexpected expenses arise or there are times when making a payment is more difficult.
We recommend keeping a ‘get ahead payment’ on your rent account. This means having one payment in credit, based on how often you pay your rent.
For example:
- If you pay weekly, we recommend keeping one week’s rent in credit
- If you pay monthly, we recommend keeping one month’s rent in credit.
Having a ‘get ahead payment’ can help you:
- Avoid falling behind with your rent if something unexpected happens
- Give you extra flexibility during periods when money is tight
- Keep your tenancy and rent account in good standing.
If you have more credit on your account than your recommended ‘get ahead payment’, you may be able to request a refund. We will make sure enough money stays on your account to cover your rent and keep it from falling into arrears.
If you’re having difficulty making payments, please get in touch – our team can support you to find a solution.

If you can’t repay your rent arrears in full, talk to us. We’ll ask you some questions about your finances and agree an affordable repayment plan with you. Please do stick to this arrangement – if you don’t, we may have to apply to the County Court to evict you from your home.
- Keep on top of housing benefit
-
If you’re claiming housing benefit, please provide any information that we ask for without delay. If not, your claim will be cancelled and you’ll need to pay the full rent due. You’re also responsible for notifying the DWP of any changes in your circumstances.
