£1 theatre tickets for Beyond Housing customers at Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough
Monday 12 November 2018
A scheme enabling residents of a local housing association to see shows at the Stephen Joseph Theatre (SJT) in Scarborough for just £1 has proved so successful, it has been extended to feature this year’s Christmas production.
Last year 667 Yorkshire Coast Homes customers snapped up the discounted tickets offer. Now the company has merged with Redcar-based Coast & Country Housing to become Beyond Housing, the theatre has extended its offer to include all customers of the newly launched housing provider.
The theatre is offering all Beyond Housing customers the opportunity to buy tickets for selected performances of its forthcoming production of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland at the discounted price of £1.
The two-hour show is sure to be a delight for all the family – it’s already been described as daft, exciting and filled with brilliant songs, making joining Alice on her Wonderland adventure an unmissable opportunity for children and adults alike.
As an additional bonus the £1 ticket scheme has been extended to also include film screenings in the theatre’s cinema at a heavily reduced cost.
Over recent years, many people booking tickets at the SJT have added a £2 donation, with the money used to increase the accessibility of theatre shows to the most vulnerable in the local community. The SJT is aware that many people are unable to afford the ticket prices and developed this initiative to financially support local people who have previously had this a as a barrier from visiting the theatre.
Georgette Donoghue, Marketing and Sales Director at Stephen Joseph Theatre, said: “We are really pleased with the success of our £1 ticket scheme, which has enabled us to give more people access to our productions than would otherwise have been possible. To be able to extend this offer over the season of goodwill makes perfect timing and is all thanks to the generous donations of our regular patrons.”
Tracy O’Neill, Executive Director of Customers and Communities at Beyond Housing, added: “We’re very pleased to pass on this fabulous opportunity to our customers. We’d like to thank the Stephen Joseph Theatre on behalf of all the people across our communities who will be sharing the theatre and cinema experience this year.”
