Community marks completion of £16m Grangetown regeneration

Residents have come together to mark the completion of a £16m regeneration programme which has improved 318 homes and reshaped the Church Lane North estate in Grangetown, Greater Eston.
We hosted a community event to thank residents for their patience and support throughout the extensive programme of work, which began in 2020 following consultation with people living on the estate.
The consultation identified priorities including private gardens, additional parking, greater privacy and easier routes through the neighbourhood.
Existing homes have since received insulation and external improvements, while changes to the estate layout have created larger gardens, improved access and better parking. Older properties were demolished as part of the work, allowing the layout to be simplified and new homes to be built in a range of styles, sizes and tenures.
The new properties have been made available for affordable rent, shared ownership and rent to buy, helping to meet a range of housing needs within the area.
Residents remained in their homes while the work was carried out, allowing the established community to remain together throughout the regeneration programme.
A new central open space has also been created to provide a place where residents can meet, spend time outdoors and take part in community activities.
The completion event brought together residents and their families, our colleagues and project partners for an afternoon of food, family activities and entertainment. It also gave residents an opportunity to begin using the open space for the purpose for which it was designed.
Rachael Crooks, Community Partnership & Engagement Manager at Beyond Housing, said: “We appreciate that the work brought disruption, noise and at times mess, so it was great to be able to host this event as a thank you for bearing with us as the regeneration work was completed. It was fantastic to see the community come together and enjoy the newly created central open space and we hope that residents will continue to make the most of this space in the future.”

It was fantastic to join residents to officially mark the completion of the scheme, which has seen a once failing estate transformed to meet the needs and expectations of residents both now and well into the future.”
