We have donated £500 to a school Christmas hamper scheme in a bid to bring some festive joy to families across Redcar.

The initiative, introduced by Green Gates Primary School, helps families to enjoy Christmas at what can be a difficult time of year for many.

The children at the school have worked in partnership with Teesside-based charity, CAUSE Foundation, which has regularly contributed to the Christmas hampers with donations of food, clothing, and children’s toys.

The rise in the cost of living has left many families struggling more than usual and in need of extra support during the festive period. This year has seen the level of need outstripping the number of donated items, which led to Head Teacher Katie Lowe seeking additional help. Kirkleatham Ward Councillor Marian Fairley suggested Beyond Housing during a visit to the school and promptly appealed to the organisation herself.

Without hesitation, Beyond Housing made the £500 donation to address the shortfall.

Green Gates Primary School Head Teacher Katie Lowe said: “A huge thank you to Beyond Housing for this generous donation, which will enable us to help families across our community who are in need and reaching out for help”.

Rosemary Du Rose, Chief Executive said: “We are very happy to make a £500 donation to this scheme to help the children and teachers at Green Gates School continue their very welcome support for local families in need at Christmas”.

Cllr Marian Fairley said: “Green Gates Primary School is one of two primary schools in the Kirkleatham Ward. I am conscious that the ward includes areas where there is a significant need for family support during times of rising costs, so when Head Teacher Katie Howe spoke with me about her search for willing contributors to the hamper scheme, I was happy to ask Beyond Housing. They responded immediately with a generous donation, and it has been wonderful to play a part in supporting the school’s scheme which will benefit so many people in our community.”
