Work begins on 52 affordable homes at Low Farm Drive in Redcar

Beyond Housing has begun work on the development of 52 new homes for affordable rent in Redcar.
The scheme will provide much-needed accommodation for elderly and vulnerable people in Redcar and Cleveland, with four three-bedroomed, wheelchair-friendly bungalows and six two-bedroomed bungalows, designated for older people, in addition to 38 two, three and four-bedroomed houses for those with general needs.
The newly merged housing association has entered into a build contract with Esh Living, the affordable housing division of Esh Group, on the construction of the £7m development with completion expected in 2020.
With a £2m grant from Homes England, the new properties will be built across four sites, three of which are adjacent to Beyond Housing’s existing extra care scheme, The Dunes, on Low Farm Drive and Byland Close. The fourth site is within close proximity on Wykeham Close.
The development brings with it a contribution to the wider sustainability of the Redcar community, with a £8,400 donation being made to Natural England for coastal preservation.
Frances Barlow, Development Manager at Beyond Housing, said: “This is a really exciting development for Beyond Housing, providing much-needed affordable homes adjacent to our successful extra care scheme, The Dunes. Thanks to a great partnership with our colleagues at Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, getting the green light on the development of these new homes has been a really smooth process.
“At Beyond Housing we are absolutely committed to delivering high quality homes which meet all the needs of our customers, and contribute to the prosperity and regeneration of our communities.
“Providing a full complement of age-range appropriate accommodation in the vicinity, allows for a seamless transition for members of our ageing population who may move into our adjacent site, The Dunes.”
Louise Buckton, Commercial Director of Esh Living said: “It’s great to be working on this brilliant scheme with Beyond Housing which is a fantastic investment for the area. We believe in the importance of building for all tenures and understand there is a real need for this form of accommodation.
“We are looking forward to engaging with the local community and schools across the area to provide a range of social value initiatives whilst delivering this project on behalf of Beyond Housing.”
