Politicians praise our ‘game-changing’ regeneration scheme in Grangetown

Wednesday 31 August 2022

Redcar and Cleveland politicians have heaped praise on our £16 million regeneration of the Church Lane North estate, Grangetown.

Redcar Constituency MP, Jacob Young, and Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council Leader, Cllr Mary Lanigan, visited the site recently to view progress on the scheme which began in October last year.

The project is being delivered in partnership with EQUANS and is bringing home improvements for our existing customers, including private gardens and dedicated parking spaces, along with new affordable homes for rent, shared ownership and rent-to-buy.

A small number of homes have been demolished, in order to make way for new roads to improve the layout of the estate, as well as the much-needed new homes.

By increasing the types of property available, we aim to more accurately meet diverse housing needs in the area and provide a more inclusive affordable housing offer for the estate and the wider community of Grangetown.

Mr Young and Cllr Lanigan were shown the extensive improvements already underway for many existing properties on the estate, including new roofs, external wall insulation and cladding to improve energy efficiency and appearance.

Jacob Young MP for Redcar Constituency, said: “This is a fantastic regeneration project at Church Lane North. It really demonstrates how Beyond Housing is improving local housing working with the local authority and organisations like Homes England to ensure that estates like this one at Church Lane North are improved and can be used for generations to come so it’s fantastic to see.”

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council Leader, Cllr Mary Lanigan, added: “This project is the best thing for the residents and the people, and the community and I think it’s fantastic.”

Clare Harrigan, Director of Development at Beyond Housing, said: “We are incredibly excited to be delivering this long-anticipated regeneration work at Church Lane North.

“It was a pleasure to be able showcase the progress we have made so far.”

Will Kay, Regional Managing Director at EQUANS, said: “We are very pleased to be working closely with Beyond Housing to deliver the regeneration of Church Lane North, which will improve residents’ lives for the better with both material improvements to their homes and through an improved sense of community spirit brought about by the scheme.

“With only half the project completed, the scope and scale of the transformation can already be seen and I am confident that, once finished, it will provide a prime example of neighbourhood investment and improvement.”
