Joe initially engaged with Beyond Housing by receiving one-to-one support through the Youth Employability Initiative, known as New Directions. He openly acknowledged that he had hit rock bottom and needed support with getting back on his feet and taking his first step back into work. His YEI advisor encouraged him to consider volunteering and arranged for him to work at Westfield Farm, where he handled reception duties, including data entry work. Joe found that volunteering gave him a sense of worth and confidence. It also allowed him to develop new skills, including IT and social interaction.

To further build on his experience at Westfield Farm, Joe also volunteered at our Beyond Housing reception at Ennis Square. All the skills he had recently aquired at the farm had increased his confidence and enabled him to take on this new challenge of working in a larger, more public-facing role. This newfound confidence motivated Joe to apply for an apprenticeship at Beyond Housing, which he successfully obtained. He started his apprenticeship in HR and later moved to different teams to enhance his data entry and customer service skills.

Joe viewed Beyond Housing as his employer of choice and applied for several roles. After receiving feedback from his interviews into account, he secured a full-time position as a Service Centre Advisor and completed his Customer Service Level 2 apprenticeship with distinction! Joe has achieved so much since volunteering at Westfield Farm and we are proud to have played a part in his employment journey.
