Employment Support and Training
Case Study: Bobby
Background
Bobby was initially referred to our Employment Support and Training (EST) service by his grandmother. Our initial discussions with him were about Beyond Housing’s apprenticeship recruitment intake for the coming year.
Story
Bobby was especially eager pursue a joinery apprenticeship, something he had been working towards for some time. His passion was clear to our team, and it was disappointing when Beyond Housing didn’t offer any trade apprenticeships in the Scarborough area for him to apply for.
We continued to support Bobby with his employment journey and began a new focus on the possibility of him completing work experience with us here at Beyond Housing.
Outcome
Bobby completed a week of work experience with the Beyond Housing joinery team and really enjoyed it. He said he learnt so much in just a week, he couldn’t begin to imagine how much he would learn in an actual apprenticeship.
Whilst an apprenticeship remains his long-term ambition, Bobby has recently started work in a non-trade job. He will also be returning to Beyond Housing to compete another week of work experience so he can build on his knowledge and continue learning more about the joinery role.
