Handover of 75 new homes in Redcar
Thursday 17 October 2024
We’re thrilled to have officially taken handover of 75 newly built homes at Kirkleatham, Redcar.
Delivered in collaboration with Vistry North East, which constructed the new properties, the new development provides flexible supported housing, designed for customers who need lower levels of support.
The new homes will allow residents to continue living independently while receiving support through existing care packages, family assistance, or informal arrangements. Additionally, we are providing reassurance through our Reach & Respond service, which is supported by modern telecare technology.
The centrepiece of the project is The Tides, a striking building comprising 14 one-bedroom and 31 two-bedroom apartments. Surrounding this core are 12 one-bedroom houses, 12 two-bedroom flats, 4 two-bedroom bungalows, and 2 three-bedroom bungalows. All homes have been thoughtfully designed to promote independent living with minimal support.
The properties are being advertised on Tees Valley Home Finder, with assured tenancies offered to successful applicants. A local lettings policy has been put in place to promote a cohesive and self-sustaining community, and full details of the criteria are available in the property listings and on our website.
One resident, Helena Powell, who recently moved into one of the bungalows, shared how her new home has had a profound impact on her life:
“Moving into my new bungalow has changed my life. I cannot remember how long it’s been since I had any kind of positive outlook, but now, with the benefit of my adapted facilities and the help of the people at Beyond Housing, who have cared and supported me every step of the way, I’m really looking forward to the years ahead.”
“It’s only been a few days, but now I get up every morning, enjoy a beautiful shower, and look out at the day with much improved mental health and a positive frame of mind. I’m on top of the world.”
The Beyond Housing properties have been delivered as part of a 650 home, three phase, multi-tenure development project, constructed by Vistry North East – part of Vistry Group. This is creating homes for sale, shared ownership, private and affordable rent and for those requiring flexible supported accommodation. Work on the third phase began in June 2024.
Clare Harrigan, Director of Development at Beyond Housing said:
“Our long-standing partnership with Vistry Homes North East, throughout all phases of the Kirkleatham development, has enabled Beyond Housing to deliver a superb collection of high quality homes with a range of tenures and options to meet the needs of all our customers.
“The Tides flexible supported living scheme is already illustrating how advanced design, telecare technology, and the commitment of our Reach & Respond team is making life changing improvements for our customers.”
Kevin Bradshaw, Supported Living Manager at Beyond Housing said:
“This development illustrates how good supported accommodation can be. The different designs provide safe, secure, modern, adapted, accessible, technologically advanced, light and airy accommodation for our customers; but, perhaps most importantly of all, they deliver what everyone wants, and that is a home.
“At the centre, The Tides, is a delightful, warm and welcoming environment, which will meet the needs of its residents, provide the independence to enable them to flourish, underpinned by the security of the Reach & Respond service available 24 hours a day. I truly believe this will develop into a real, supportive community.”
Andrew Rennie, Development Director, Vistry North East, said:
“We are delighted to have handed over these new homes, delivering flexible supported housing for people who need lower levels of support. We enjoy an excellent working relationship with Beyond Housing and look forward to continuing this as we progress this project in Redcar – and on other development sites right across the region.
“Our Kirkleatham scheme is meeting the challenge of creating high quality new homes that cater for a range of needs. Whether people are looking to buy outright, to rent privately or to access supported housing options – through means such as affordable rent, shared ownership, rent to buy or in an extra care setting – options and opportunities are available.”
The project won Residential Development of the Year at the Insider Property Awards North East and has also been awarded a five-star rating by the Home Builders Federation, which evaluates customer satisfaction. In addition, Michael Gerraghty, Vistry Partnership’s Project Manager for the entire Kirkleatham scheme, recently won National House Building Council’s Seal of Excellence.
