John’s work and training success
John signed up for support in May 2024, excited to explore new opportunities and discover what he truly needed. Despite being unemployed for 10 years due to his long-term health condition, he was ready to make a change and had no requirements from the Job Centre to look for employment.
From his first few meetings, it was clear that John was eager to rejoin society, build up his confidence, and pursue training to help him get back into employment when he felt ready. He was enthusiastic about ‘hands-on’ work and loved being outdoors.
He enrolled in the Level 2 NVQ Rail Track Engineering Course at Hartlepool College, which brought a new sense of purpose to his life. He made new friends, actively participated in the course, and passed it with flying colours. Although he faced a setback and couldn’t take up employment in this sector due to medical standards, he remained optimistic.
John then moved on to Street Works and Excavator Training, with funding provided for the courses. He successfully passed them and gained valuable new qualifications.
Now, with these achievements, John is actively seeking employment in highway maintenance, and he continues to receive support on his journey.
