Employment Support and Training
Case Study: Micky
Background
Micky first started volunteering at Westfield Farm as he was seeking the opportunity to gain confidence and experience – ultimately he wanted a job in gardening.
Story
Alongside volunteering, Micky took the initiative and worked hard gaining qualifications in Emergency First Aid at Work, Manual Handling and COSHH through our training programme.
Outcomes
He really flourished as a Garden Volunteer so Micky was encouraged to apply for a work placement at Westfield Farm helping with the day-to-day running of the whole facility. He also went on to successfully gain employment as a Seasonal Garden Maintenance Operative for our Neighbourhoods Team.
Micky’s journey is a great example of the opportunities that can be taken advantage of whilst volunteering. He thoroughly recommends our volunteer services as they help people increase their confidence, meet new people, learn new roles, and get a job they love within a great team.
Micky said: “I love my new job, as I get to meet people and help them keep their gardens and communities tidy. I work in an excellent team with whom I get on really well with – working with them all is a pleasure!
“I would absolutely recommend volunteering with Beyond Housing because it has given me more confidence working with other people and it’s developed my skills by giving me the chance to work in new roles. Without their help and support, I wouldn’t have been able to apply for a seasonal job within the company. In addition to that, I’m now developing even more new skills, such as working with garden machinery as I am progressing onto open space garden work.”
“We are over the moon for Micky – his journey has been amazing! He started as a volunteer and used this time effectively to develop his skills, then landed a job with the Neighbourhoods Team – great stuff!’
