Beyond Housing and Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council launch ‘Next Chapter’ service for care leavers
Friday 19 December 2025
Together with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council we have launched a new partnership to support young people leaving care, providing both accommodation and holistic support to help them move towards independent living.
The ‘Next Chapter’ service will support up to 14 young care leavers at a time, offering a home with support for up to three years. The scheme provides “wrap-around” support to enable and empower young people to develop independence, confidence, and skills to help them move on into permanent accommodation.
Two full-time holistic support advisors will provide intensive, regular advice, guidance, advocacy and support planning. The advisors work alongside the council’s leaving care team to help each young person achieve their potential.
Working with personal advisors from the leaving care team, the support advisors will agree tailored support plans to help young people access training, education and employment opportunities, while also building daily living and wider life skills to prepare them for independence in the longer term.
The scheme has been funded through Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s Levelling Up Partnership funding and the Department for Education’s Staying Close programme. To be eligible, young people must be aged 18 or over, have experience of living in care and be willing to engage with the support offered.
Young people leaving care were consulted on the service by the leaving care team and chose the name ‘Next Chapter’ to represent the new stage in their lives.
Sarah Hall, Director of Housing at Beyond Housing, said: ‘I’m so pleased that we can support local care leavers through the ‘Next Chapter’ service. We have worked closely with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and care leavers themselves to provide safe accommodation with the day-to-day support to help these young people succeed in their tenancies. The service demonstrates our shared commitment to helping care experienced young people build confidence, develop skills, and move forward into independent living’.
Ursula Earl, Elected Member, said: ‘We know that leaving care can be a lonely, daunting, and stressful experience for young people. The Next Chapter service is a partnership initiative between Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council and Beyond Housing, which will provide wide ranging help and support to these young care leavers in addition to safe accommodation thereby enabling them to live confident, independent, and successful future lives’.
