Join us to celebrate Middlesbrough Pop-Up Pride

Following a colourful pop-up event in 2019, Pride makes its return to Middlesbrough, taking over popular artisan market Orange Pip on Saturday 2 October.

Relocated to Centre Square, Middlesbrough Pop-up Pride brings an afternoon of celebration for the Tees Valley LGBTQIA+ community and allies.

Presented by LGBTQIA+ arts producers, Curious Arts in association with Middlesbrough Council and sponsored by Beyond Housing.

Alongside Orange Pip Market’s well-loved offer of artisan food, arts and live music, the main stage, sponsored by housing organisation Beyond Housing will be packed with performances by artists from across the North East. Including Sunderland’s bigfatbig and PICNIC and Drag Artists Frida Sapphic (North East Drag Idol winner) and well known drag talent Carla Jackson and DJ Gina Tonic.

The market will also be extended to make way for a series of Pride stalls, run by local LGBTQIA+ owned businesses and Pride supporters including Unison, Cleveland Police & Crime Commissioner’s Office, Cleveland Fire Brigade, Teesside University and more.

Rosemary Du Rose, Chief Executive of Beyond Housing, said: “We’re thrilled to be sponsoring Middlesbrough Pop-Up Pride this year, as it’s so important for events celebrating equality, diversity and inclusion to take place across the region.

“As a housing provider we are very much aware that LGBTQIA+ young people are more likely to find themselves homeless than their non-LGBTQIA+ peers, making up as much as 24% of young homeless people.

“At Beyond Housing we believe everyone has a right to a safe and secure home, and are committed to creating vibrant, diverse communities where everyone is accepted and valued for who they are.”

Pop-up Pride and Orange Pip are a match made in heaven

Councillor Mieka Smiles, Middlesbrough Deputy Mayor and Executive member for Culture & Communities, said: “Pop-up Pride and Orange Pip are a match made in heaven, and there really will be something for everyone at next month’s event.

“Middlesbrough’s all about equality and diversity, and Centre Square will be the perfect backdrop for an amazing celebration of all that’s great about our town and its people. Orange Pip is renowned for great food and drink, and Pride will bring some top class entertainment that’s guaranteed to make it a day to remember.”

With arts and crafts, workshops and pop-up street performances, there’s plenty to get involved in at the popular market’s Pride edition next month. Get ready to eat, drink, dance and celebrate Pride at Pip!
