New laws for XL Bully dog owners

We know the joy a dog can bring to a home and family and are happy for customers to have dogs in their homes (where there is no shared access).

However, to comply with the new laws, Beyond Housing customers who own an XL Bully dog need to apply for a ‘Certificate of Exemption’ to legally keep their pet beyond Wednesday 31 January 2024.

You will find more details about how to apply for this certificate on the government website: Prepare for the ban on XL Bully dogs – GOV.UK.

You will be committing a criminal offence if you do not hold a Certification of Exemption on Thursday 1 February 2024.

It is also now against the law to:

  • Sell an XL Bully dog
  • Abandon an XL Bully dog or let it stray
  • Give away an XL Bully dog
  • Breed from an XL Bully dog.

Remember, even with the new regulations, your dog can still be a treasured member of your family within your private space. We remain committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all our residents and their furry companions.

If you have any concerns about a neighbour’s XL Bully, this should be reported to the Police in the first instance and if you have any further questions about having an XL bully in your own home, please phone us on 0345 065 5656 or email enquiries@beyondhousing.co.uk.
